The author was born and raised in the Caribbean to mixed race parents. He grew up in a multi-ethnic environment with appreciation for all types of beauty. Years later he would find himself, as a dedicated single dad, raising his own mixed-race daughter in Florida. He often witnessed her exploration of beauty in the games she played with her toys, what she saw on TV, and eventually, what she saw and heard in school. In an effort to show her different sides of beauty, he would often make up stories on the spur of the moment to address the day’s events. This is one of those stories.
